TITLE:

Performing Arts Center Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in management, business administration, education, theater, or a related field.  Must possess and maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s license.

 

REPORTS TO:

Activities Director

 

JOB GOAL:

To serve as the primary point of contact for all activities at Urbandale Performing Arts Center on the campus of Urbandale High School, handling all management and operational issues along with some supervisory responsibilities.

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed indoors and typically involves contact with the students, staff, and the general public; activity schedules may be irregular involving night and/or weekend meetings and programs; work may also involve exposure to chemicals and heat/cold.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Creates rules, policies, marketing plans and manages the schedule for the Performing Arts Center
  2. Hires, trains, schedules, supervises and evaluates seasonal, part-time and permanent maintenance, community and other staff to include volunteers and outside user groups
  3. Supervises Performing Arts Center operations, personnel and programs in conjunction with the District Activities Director to include all school and community events
  4. Supervises Performing Arts Center operations and personnel and collaborates with the Director of Activities to oversee recreational and educational programs at the Performing Arts Center
  5. Supervises maintenance personnel and contractors working on the Performing Arts Center and District facilities
  6. Responsible for all technical aspects of the Performing Arts Center to include lights and sound, rigging, setup and tear down
  7. Communicates with other school district and city staff members
  8. Specifies and recommends maintenance, equipment and supplies for use in the Performing Arts Center
  9. Assists with departmental planning and budgeting to include marketing and non-traditional use of the facility
  10. Inspects the facility on a routine basis
  11. May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of other District personnel
  12. Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge of Performing Arts Center / Theater staffing and programming in a school / community setting

Knowledge of computer systems and other technical elements used to enhance programming in a Performing Arts Center / Theater in a school / community setting

Ability to safely use maintenance tools and equipment

Ability to utilize spreadsheet, database and word processing programs and selected job-related software to include websites

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job requires incumbent to talk/hear, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, climb/balance, reach with hands and arms, and routinely lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Flexible scheduling on as needed basis, 40 hours a week minimum.
